Coe was recognized as a Certified DOIT Institution by Diverse: Issues in Higher Education

Coe College students have a new opportunity to earn both a bachelor's degree and a law degree in six years thanks to a partnership with the Drake University Law School.

Coe College is proud to announce the recipients of the 2022-23 Iowa & Minnesota Campus Compact Presidents’ Awards. Max Gorden Mercer has been selected for the Presidents’ Award in Student Leadership. John William King Professor of Literature & Creative Writing Gina Hausknecht has received the President’s Award in Civic Engagement in recognition of her involvement with the Prison Learning Initiative.

Priscila Santiesteban '21 was named a National Science Foundation graduate research fellow.

This year’s Iowa Human Rights Research Conference will be hosted at Coe College on Saturday, April 22 from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. An annual event in its eighth year, the Iowa Human Rights Research Conference showcases undergraduate, graduate and professional students’ research on a range of human rights issues. The conference is organized each year by the Iowa Network of Human Rights Academics.

The Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation named Coe College's Max Gorden Mercer '24 as a 2023 Truman Scholarship finalist -- he is the only finalist who attends a college or university in Iowa.

Coe College is providing a bus to bring Iowa Wesleyan University students to campus for a tour and admission and academic presentations. Additionally, Coe is announcing a $2,500 per year dedicated scholarship for IWU transfer students on top of the up to $34,000 per year scholarships already available.

Kohawk Startup is a 24-hour entrepreneurial and innovation event. Business ideas are pitched, debated, defined and refined amongst student teams alongside mentors. It can seem like a frenzy, but when all is said and done, the event continues to prove to Coe students that when you put yourself through the ringer, you’re coming out better because of it.

Coe College has received a $15,350 Institutionalizing Community-Based Pedagogies grant from the Associated Colleges of the Midwest. The grant will support the creation of a new Prison Learning Initiative (PLI) at Coe which will provide a range of high-impact experiences for students and community members to learn about and become involved with the criminal legal system in Iowa and the Midwest.

Historian and non-profit leader Bob Kendrick will speak at Coe College as the featured guest of the 19th K. Raymond Clark Contemporary Issues Forum. His visit will be Tuesday, Feb. 28, at 7:30 p.m. in Sinclair Auditorium on Coe’s campus and is open to the public.

Deftly wielding a shovel, Coe College President David Hayes ’93 gently tamped down loose soil surrounding a recently planted tree the morning of his inauguration. It was an act which provided just a little protection for the sapling and its roots, but was heavy with symbolism.

Coe welcomed over 400 alumni and friends back to campus Homecoming weekend — reuniting old friends and celebrating what it means to be a Kohawk.

The 2022-2023 Arts@Coe season will be filled with toe-tapping music, thought-provoking speakers and even eye-watering laughter! Known for showcasing student, faculty and local talent, with featured national and international performances, the Coe College arts scene provides a thriving hub for both performers and those who love to be entertained.

Few people can claim to be as Coe-to-the-core as Nancy Skogsbergh ’53. The connection started young. As a seventh-grader, she hung out in Hickock Hall and greeted the president by name. As years passed, she would fire the starting gun for the Lamb-Kohawk cross country meet and used her Kohawk experience to become a top nursing educator in Eastern Iowa.

The newest addition to Coe’s campus already is attracting a crowd. After construction crews cleared out, the curious came in for the dedication of the David and Janice McInally Center for Health & Society (CHS). A large contingent of individuals and organizations from across campus and up-and-down the Corridor were on hand the evening of Thursday, September 29 to celebrate the project’s visionary roots and recognize the namesakes of the shimmering new three-story space.

Coe College is proud to announce the 2022-2023 Marquis Series schedule. For decades, Coe has hosted world renowned speakers, musicians, dancers, artists, filmmakers and theater and comedy troupes. The Marquis Series is known for its long tradition of welcoming Coe students, staff, faculty and the entire Cedar Rapids community to captivating performances and lectures.

The Clark Merit Scholars for the 2022-2023 academic year are Jenna Meehan ’23, Anh Nguyen ’23, Ryan Smith ’23, Skyler Stookey ’23 and JoAnna Voss ’23. The Clark Merit Award provides a scholarship equal to one year's tuition. The recipients of this prestigious award demonstrate qualities of character, integrity, intellect, leadership and social responsibility.

U.S. News & World Report named Coe as a Top Performer on Social Mobility, ranking the college as the No. 38 liberal arts college in the nation for creating opportunities for its students to elevate their own socioeconomic status. Coe is the highest ranked college or university in Iowa on the Social Mobility list.
