The Center for Creativity and Careers hosted its third annual health care career fair for Kohawks on Feb. 6 from 4-6 p.m. Employers from all areas of health care were on hand to discuss internships, volunteer and job opportunities.
An expansion to this year’s lineup of employers included the Mayo Clinic of Rochester, Minnesota. A handful of larger corridor organizations in attendance were UnityPoint St. Luke’s Hospital, Mercy Medical Center, University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and Physicians’ Clinic of Iowa. Several local businesses including DaVita Kidney Center, Eastern Iowa Health Center and Proteus all hoped to gain more traction among Coe students.
"We love to keep Coe grads in the area. I know how well my Coe education prepared me for my career and we look for those qualities in new hires," Amanda Barnes Nelson ’07 of Physicians’ Clinic of Iowa.
Kohawks have a clear advantage when it comes to opportunities for health care experience. In addition to three hospitals in the area, there are three medical centers within walking distance of Coe’s campus as well as numerous other medical offices and businesses.
"I'm curious about the local career opportunities available for a business and nursing major. I eventually see myself working in hospital administration," said Cole Erickson ’22.
Coe is leading the way in health care education with internships, research and practicum opportunities and so is Cedar Rapids — recently ranked the #4 midsize city for getting health care right according to Healthgrades National Health Index. If you’re considering a health care major, now is the time to consider Coe.
