Exceptional grade leads to national recognition for Coe

Coe makes it possible. You make it happen. Student body President Fatima Elsheikh ’19 used a pun on Coe’s slogan as she told the second largest incoming class in history, “Coe makes it possible. You’ve just gotta be down to make it happen.”

Fatima certainly isn’t the only one who believes Coe is making it possible — after tireless examination of data and reviews, NICHE lists Coe among the Best Liberal Arts Colleges in America. An overall grade of A- and a rank of 74 positions Coe among the best of the best.

How does a college become one of the best? Coe scores exceptionally strong in several areas: top 15% of colleges with the best academics in America, top one-third for nearly all areas of study and top 12% of the hardest colleges to get into in America.

Coe is, in fact, a selective institution. We’re selective because we’re producing graduates who are far above average and go on to work at places like Google, Mayo Clinic, the Chicago Board of Trade and attend some of the nation’s most prestigious graduate programs. In fact, within three years of graduation, 50% of our grads go on to medical school, law school or graduate school.

We’ve been producing top scholars since 1851 and we’re not about to stop. "With a rigorous academic program and student-centered environment, Kohawks are transformed with life-changing experiences, gain confidence in themselves and are rewarded with success upon graduating from Coe," said David McInally president of Coe College.

NICHE uses comprehensive ranking data including quality of faculty, student-faculty ratio, average loan amount, alumni earnings, location and more. Because of Coe’s location in a metropolitan area, 100% of our students reap the benefits of thousands of internship and job opportunities that are literally right around the corner. In fact, Cedar Rapids boasts the lowest unemployment rate for college graduates of any city in the nation.

Since 50% of Coe grads stay in the area after graduating, it’s no wonder we have such an active alumni association. After all, Coe makes it possible, “you’ve just gotta be down to make it happen.”
