Examine how cities can be redesigned to meet modern challenges with Joan and Abbott Lipsky Professor of Political Science Bruce Nesmith and Assistant Professor of Economics Drew Westberg. This Thursday Forum takes an in-depth look at how cities from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Kansas City, Missouri, to Washington, D.C., are responding to the challenges of the 21st century.
Those challenges include maintaining social connections among residents, encouraging healthy lifestyles, living within the limits of the environment and being financially sustainable.
Throughout the forum, professors Nesmith and Westberg will draw on local, national and international examples and experiences to explore how people in today’s cities are rethinking urban space in order to meet tomorrow’s challenges.
Thursday Forum lectures are held in Kesler Lecture Hall in Hickok Hall on the Coe College campus. Each session begins with coffee and pastries from 8:45-9:15 a.m., followed by the class until 11:30 a.m. Each series concludes with an optional luncheon on the final Thursday. Admission is $35 for a four-week course or $12 per week. Visit www.coe.edu/thursday-forum to register.
