Coe, St. Luke’s partnership creates temporary housing for health care workers

Health care workers concerned about exposing their families and loved ones to COVID-19 now have an additional housing option. An expanded partnership between Coe College and UnityPoint Health - St. Luke’s hospital makes college-owned housing available to health care workers.
“We highly value our long-standing partnership with St. Luke’s. During this difficult time, we’re honored to provide housing for health care workers in need,” Coe President David McInally said. “We greatly appreciate everything St. Luke’s and our health care workers are doing to keep our community safe.”
Located adjacent to Coe, St. Luke’s has been an educational partner throughout the years. Coe students routinely conduct nursing preceptorships at the hospital. Students also fill a multitude of the hospital’s volunteer and internship positions.
“We are very appreciative of our long-standing relationship and we value the support given by Coe College during these unprecedented times,” UnityPoint Health - St. Luke’s Vice President for Human Resources and Operations Joe Linn said. “The additional housing available to our team members that is being offered on the Coe campus will serve as a convenient option for our staff who have been working many hours during this pandemic.”
Coe looks forward to continuing to provide housing to health care workers throughout this unprecedented time. This housing will be used exclusively by health care workers. Our students have not been and will not be displaced because of this partnership. While we offer this accommodation to St. Luke's staff, our staff will not enter the space and proper sanitization procedures will be followed to clean the space when the partnership ends.
