Coe honored as 2024 Major Champion by the Zach Johnson Foundation in recognition of its Kids on Course partnership

Zach Johnson Foundation Kids on Course Major Partner awardCoe was recently honored as a 2024 Major Champion by the Zach Johnson Foundation (ZJF) at the organization’s annual gala. The recognition celebrates the ongoing Kids on Course partnership.

Based in Cedar Rapids, Kids on Course provides tutoring, enrichment, parent engagement, summer learning and long-term mentoring for students at high poverty schools, beginning with programming in elementary school and continuing throughout their education.

As an advocate for students in Kids on Course, Coe supports students in the program who enroll at Coe and meet requirements with a generous scholarship. It's part of Coe's commitment to open doors for students of all backgrounds to pursue their dreams and reach their full potential through higher education.

"The partnership between Coe College and the Zach Johnson Foundation exemplifies the power of collaboration and the profound impact it can have on the lives of young people. Coe College’s dedication to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for our students is truly commendable, and we are deeply grateful for their ongoing support,” said ZJF Vice President Kim Johnson. “Thank you, Coe College, for being a beacon of hope and opportunity for our Kids on Course students. Your generosity and commitment to education are making a lasting difference in our community, and we are honored to celebrate you as a 2024 Major Champion."

Beyond scholarship support, Coe also hosts an annual Kids on Course Day on campus. Middle school students in the program are able to tour campus with activities to help envision themselves attending college in the future. Further down the road, success coaches within Coe’s Office of Student Success & Persistence provide individual support to assist Kids on Course students who enroll at Coe in their transition to college by providing connections to on-campus resources.

The partnership began in 2016, and in 2026 three members of the original Kids on Course program are expected to graduate from Coe.

“To many, Zach Johnson is a golfing legend. To the kids and families of Cedar Rapids, he is a hero who changes lives in our community and is positively impacting future generations of Cedar Rapidians. Coe College is immensely proud of our location in Cedar Rapids and supports this vital program as it lifts up our community in educational pursuits. It is our honor to be recognized by the Zach Johnson Foundation as a Kids On Course partner,” said Coe College President David Hayes ’93.
